What is TRTP™?
The TRTP™ model views the cause of anxiety, depression, PTSD and some other mental health issues, if not caused by physical illness or brain injury, as being caused by unresolved distressing events from the past.
Our body, indeed, our whole being, continues to behave as if those events are happening now. ‘I’m not safe!’
When a distressing event occurs, we go into a state of Fight, Flight or Freeze activated by the sympathetic nervous system. A high stress response – with adrenaline, cortisol and other stress hormones constantly being produced and circulated through our body. It’s exhausting.
When the system is not in balance, we can stay stuck in that state resulting in the symptoms of anxiety, depression, PTSD and more.
TRTP™ is a structured 3 step process.
It does not re-traumatize – you don’t need to go into the details of retelling your story with this process
Step one involves changing the way you identify with yourself - reconfiguring the limiting or damaging beliefs you hold about yourself. This is done in a guided, safe space that leaves you feeling changed. For many people this session alone is life changing.
Step two involves taking the emotional charge out of the past. The past events are resolved and the body and the unconscious move to a state of ‘It’s over… I’m safe now…’. The sympathetic nervous system is returned to a state of calm. Many experience a state of calm and empowerment for the first time in years.
Step three is a no holds barred look into the future, focusing on what you want it to look like, now that you are no longer limited by your own limiting beliefs about yourself and are free of the pain of the past. Leaving you feeling excited and ready to live your best life!
TRTP™ can also stop client self-sabotage before it begins.
It does this in the first session by changing the unhelpful negative unconscious core beliefs to the positive. For example, if the unconscious has the belief ‘It’s not safe to be successful’ – self-sabotage will be the result. The unconscious will keep the client safe, according to its own beliefs. If this unconscious core belief is changed to ‘It’s safe to be successful” – then a positive outcome will be achieved more quickly, without the unconscious attempting to keep the client ‘safe’ by keeping them unsuccessful.
Who Created TRTP™ and How?
Judith Richards is a person of extraordinary strengths and courage, with a history that defies belief… a life remarkable and profound in its content and experience. Judith has an intimate understanding of trauma. She knows it inside out, back-the-front, and sideways.
So, what happened to her? Judith’s journey through life introduced her to trauma from a very young age. This paved the way to re-victimization –furthermore extreme and more extensive abusive experiences as an adult. And she survived. More than that – she has thrived.
For many years she suffered extreme physical and mental illness because of her psychological trauma and physical injuries. AND, she never gave up. With great courage and determination, she persisted, learning, and discovering that there is a way to capture a life worth living. There is a way to the other side of trauma and its myriad symptoms. The result of this journey is The Richards Trauma Process TRTP™.
